Do I need the HDMI cable for my Dvd Player to utilize the upconversion?

Do i need the HDMI cable or will component cables be able to upconvert to 720i/1080i?
aw that sucks because i just ordered the component cables. are they almost the same quality?

This is the part where I tell you to look at your manual because not all upconvert players really need HDMI to transfer their images in true 1080i. Some brands are configured from the start with the ability to transfer their ‘upconverted’ signal via either component or HDMI as both are perfectly capable of delivering a picture in full 1080i resolution, they just do it with different formats.

Now after researching the owners manual if you find that it states HDMI is your only option don’t give up hope. Many ‘upconvets’ are able to be ‘hacked’ with a few simple codes punched in via your Remote Control to utilize component for transfer. Not knowing your particular brand and model it’s impossible for me to say yea or nay but a bit of research should yield that info for you without any major hassle. Try the on line forums such as the AVS Forum and you should have an answer post haste.

If it finally does come down to an HDMI only option remember, this is a digital type connection thus all info is transferred as 0′s and 1′s and as long as there is a signal it is is as good as it will ever be. 0′s and 1′s don’t care if the cable they travel cost $10 or $150, they go along at the exact same rate and with the exact same quality regardless. Just a bit of info to keep you from getting suckered as it’s a common ploy these days, deceitful in the extreme but hey, it’s a ‘Let the Buyer Beware’ type market. All this means is that any HDMI cable you pick up will give the same results so a trip to your local Walmart will be all that’s really nessesary to get you hooked up.
